This collection includes passenger lists from Gothenburg, Sweden, between the years 1869 and 1951. Records typically include the name of the passenger, date and place of birth, residence at the time of travel, date and place of departure, transit port and destination.

Beginning in 1869, a Swedish emigration law required emigrants leaving Sweden to register with the port police before leaving. The Swedish city of Gothenburg, or Göteborg, was one of the largest ports for emigration. Many of these individuals traveled to Hull, Yorkshire, England, took a train to an English port such as Liverpool, and headed for the United States. The Swedish famine of 1867-1869 and the U.S. Homestead Act of 1862 were key factors that led to a great wave of Swedish emigration to the United States.

The index of this collection was produced by MyHeritage from scanned images of the original documents.
